Ripper’s Revenge [IMDb]—— Shooting with Pictor Zoom

11-15-2022

One year on from the notorious "Jack The Ripper" murders, the killings have stopped, but the identity of the killer remains a mystery. Down-at-heel newspaper reporter Sebastian Stubb has moved on to reporting on other scandals, but when a new "Ripper" letter appears on his desk and the killings start again, he unwittingly finds himself at the center of a new mystery. Has the "Ripper" returned, or is it a copycat killer? Or something else entirely?

Interview Jon ONeill

1. Can you tell us more about you? (career/major/hometown/hobby...)

I studied Graphic Design BA Hons, but gravitated to video / film production after leaving my studies. Since then I’ve shot about 40 short films and 8 feature films. I’m currently Nottingham, UK based. Outside of work my young family takes up most of my time, in a good way!

2. What are your responsibilities on the feature film “Rippers Revenge" ? Could you share the idea / brief storyline of the feature film? When will the film be released?

I was DOP on Ripper’s Revenge, we completed filming in August 2022. It’s the 6th feature film I’ve done with Steve Lawson at Creativ Studios, and the 6th feature film I’ve shot on the DZO Pictor Zooms. The film is set in 1888 London and is the sequel to Ripper Untold which I shot in 2021. The plot is a fictional take on the Jack the Ripper story. Release is in 2023, I don’t have an exact date yet sorry.

3. What is your creative process? How do you plan the shoot and make equipment selections etc.?

For the speed we have been shooting my latest feature films, we needed fast lightweight zoom lenses. The Pictor zooms fit this need amazingly. We shot 90% of the time on the 20-55mm, it’s so versatile I love it.

4. What is the chance to know about the DZOFILM brand ? What factors make you choose Pictor zoom as main lens in this film?

I’d been following DZO lens developments closely and soon after they released their Pictor Zoom 20-55mm & 50-125mm set, I quickly bought a set after hearing great feedback. My experience of owning them has also been great. I’ve added to the set with the Pictor 14-30mm, Vespid 90mm Macro and the DZO PL-PL doubler.

5. How did you find out about the DZOFILM brand? What factors made you choose Pictor zooms as the main lens for this film?

My experience of owning them has also been great. I’ve added to the set with the Pictor 14-30mm, Vespid 90mm Macro and the DZO PL-PL doubler.

6. We’ve seen you’ve done a lot of work, what is the most important thing for creating a great film from your point of view? What do you think about the "cinematic sense" ? I don’t know what this is supposed to mean?

The most important thing for a good film from my point of view is story and character. Being able to use the DZO Pictor Zooms lets me work at the speed required on my projects to allow the Director more time with the actors to achieve this.

7.What were the challenges for video creation during the pandemic?

The epidemic is a bit of a distant memory now luckily. But the restrictions to the working environment e.g social distancing, wearing mask, were the biggest challenge.

8.We are looking forward to seeing your next project, can you tell me something about it?

My next feature film will be a 1970’s comedy set in Nottingham, England. Filming commences early 2023. Followed by a period horror action film later in 2023. I plan to shoot both of these on the DZO Pictor Zooms.
